Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band released Mindfields and begin an extensive worldwide tour. After a few weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a short hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer’s song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's coverage of Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring group includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit show for the ALS Foundation. This was the first time all the original Toto members appeared performing together for over 31 years. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

Despite their acclaim, the band faced several difficulties in their later years. In 2002 the keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes took a leave of absence for medical reasons. of absence.
